The light energy absorbed by chloropyll molecule excites some electrons within the structure of the molecule to higher energy levels or states. Light of shorter wavelength (such as blue) has more energy than light of a longer wavelength (such as red), so that absorption of blue light creates an excited state of higher energy. [1]
