To cite a conference proceeding within your text in APA style, use the surname of the authors(s) and year of the conference in parentheses. All listed authors should be included in your in-text citation, regardless of whether or not they were present at the conference. If there are two authors, include both surnames separated by an ampersand (&) in parenthetical citations. If there are more than two authors, included the surname of the first listed author followed by “et al.”

To format a reference list entry for a conference proceeding in APA style, include the contributing author’s name(s), the date(s) of the full conference, the contribution’s title and contribution type in brackets, the conference’s name and location, and if applicable, a DOI or URL.

To help readers locate the source, include the full date of the conference. Add the label denoting the type of the contribution, such as conference session, paper presentation, poster presentation, in square brackets after the title.

Below are a template and an example for a reference entry for a conference session with three contributing authors.
